Meditation for AnxietyThe truth is, this process of meditation for anxiety can be a long one. You describe what many people experience: a lot of movement in a lot of areas of your life, new awareness of how you have operated in the past and what you need to do to correct it, that other personal growth areas are now seeming to be more productive, that you have a growing ability to "be the watcher" (a tremendous and underrated life skill), a growing ability to be okay with what is happening, a growing ability to be AWARE of what is happening, the ability to deal with your emotions better, and so on. You are, in short, making a lot of progress. The reason the irritability, eating, anger, and so on continue is that they are your coping mechanisms. They will continue until you have nothing left to cope with (i.e., until your threshold for what you can handle gets so high nothing much ever bothers you) or you get conscious enough to stop doing them because at a core level you realize they are not resourceful responses to what is happening. For most people, both things gradually happen with meditation
(and probably are happening already
for you) and really become apparent and obvious during the Purification
levels. When the meditation for anxiety program pushes you right up against your threshold for what you can handle coming at you from the world -- even as that threshold becomes higher and higher through your use of the program soundtracks -- you will continue to use these coping strategies (even though they really don't help you cope and in fact make things worse). In reality, your threshold for what you can handle is much higher than
it was at
the beginning of the program. It's just that being at that threshold
FEELS the
same regardless of how high it is. Overwhelm is overwhelm. The most conscious
and When you stopped listening, the meditation for anxiety program was no
longer pushing you to the brink,
and you had a chance to see what gains you had made -- which seem pretty
significant. And though they ARE significant, they are probably 10-15%
of what The trick is to go through the meditation for anxiety program without being pushed to the limit all the time (which can be, as you have noticed, uncomfortable). That's the value of learning to let everything be okay, being the watcher, and all the other things we're trying to teach in the support material. If you can do all these things, being a threshold does not feel overwhelming, but learning this stuff takes time for most people. This is because our unconscious desire to maintain a feeling of safety keeps us in resistance to the changes, and resistance to "what is" creates upheaval and suffering. So the more you can embody these things we've taught you (and you will get better at them as time goes on) the less you will be angry, want to eat, and so on. The other thing you can do, if you're doing your best with the above
and it's
still not enough (though keep striving to do them and it will bear fruit),
is to
find a schedule for listening that is not as rigorous, such as 3 days
listening,
one day off (or whatever -- experiment). The goal, though, is not to
have the I realize this seems like it is taking forever. That's how it felt to me, so I know what you're going through. "How much more of this crap could there possibly be?" I kept thinking. (There was quite a bit, it turned out.) However, it DID end eventually (though I thought it never would). I want to encourage you to keep going, because the end result is that
all this
dysfunctional stuff eventually becomes trivial, and even when it does
come up
once in a while, you will be able to let it go and stop doing it almost
as soon
as you realize you're doing it. Very few people on this planet are in
that place, I don't try to fool anyone about the fact that this is NOT easy. to become free of all the emotional and spiritual baggage we each carry, we have to deal with ourselves, and with all our fears and all our places where we don't feel safe in the world. That can be very hard sometimes, which is why we have the support materials for meditation for depression and the telephone support. It is very much worth it, though, I promise. Being free of suffering is glorious, and it is available. There is, however, a price and the price must be paid. Luckily it is worth it a thousand times over. It does sound as if you have made a lot of progress. I do think many of the things that are happening in your life are connected to your using the program. There is much more to come, and I know you'll like it. Let me know how it goes. Be well. Bill Harris, Director [I don't want you to think you have to go through a lot of stuff if
you use the
Centerpointe program. You may, or you may not. If you can learn the
non-resistance lesson, you will have little if any. Learning to let whatever
happens be okay is one of those things in life that seems impossible
until you
get it, then seems effortless and makes you wonder why it seemed so hard.
